Historic milestone:
 Delvag Versicherungs-AG celebrates its 100th anniversary

Exactly 100 years ago, on 12 August 1924, the history of Delvag began in Berlin under the name "Aero Lloyd Aktiengesellschaft" when it was founded as a subsidiary of "Deutsche Aero Lloyd AG". Shortly afterwards, "Deutsche Aero Lloyd AG" merged with "Junkers Luftverkehr AG" in 1926 to form "Deutsche Luft Hansa AG".  

Even in the early days, Delvag set itself the task of driving forward the overall development of aviation insurance. Hence, the early Lufthansa benefited from the pioneering spirit and innovative products of its own insurance subsidiary. For example, it was the first airline to introduce compulsory accident insurance for passengers and, via a pension association, installed flight disability insurance for cockpit and cabin crew at an early stage.

Eventful history

Important milestones followed over the next decades, such as the first underwriting of risks outside the Lufthansa Group (from 1968), accreditation as a composite insurer (1975) and the founding of the subsidiary Albatros Versicherungsdienste GmbH (1980), which subsequently assumed the function of insurance broker for corporate customers and their employees.

With our expertise from the past, but always with an eye on the challenges of the future. This makes us a strong and reliable partner as a specialised insurer and risk manager for our customers."
 

How Delvag is celebrating its anniversary year

Delvag is already communicating stories from the company's history and anniversary specials on the company website and its own social media channels throughout the year. Smaller and larger activities are also planned under the umbrella #Extrameile. An anniversary celebration event for employees will take place in September at Cologne's historic Butzweilerhof airport and will be the highlight of this special year for Delvag.
