Insurance expertise has a tradition

A subsidiary older than the parent company
Delvag now looks back to a history lasting many decades.
When the predecessor of today's Deutsche Lufthansa AG was founded in 1926, "Aero Lloyd Aktien-Gesellschaft" – the company from which Delvag later emerged – was already two years old. It then changed into "Luft Hansa AG" under the "flag" of "Deutscher Aero Lloyd AG".

Getting an early start...
The course for today's areas of expertise of the Delvag Group was already laid in the pioneering years. Yet, it was not just centred on aviation and transport insurance, but also insurance and pension concepts for the employees of the young Lufthansa, particularly for the flying staff.

The route to becoming a composite insurer
In the 1960s, Delvag took the decisive steps from being a pure Group insurer to a composite insurer. Increasingly, risks "outside the Group" were also underwritten and the range of offers was directed at companies of the aviation and transport sector.

The insurance group is formed
When the demand for insurance broking became steadily greater, Delvag established its first subsidiary in 1980, Albatros Versicherungsdienste GmbH.
Today, it is not just the companies and their employees who benefit from the services of the broker Albatros, but also numerous corporate clients and workforces outside the Lufthansa Group. Albatros has been supported by its own subsidiaries Albatros Service Center GmbH and Star Risk Services/Dallas, USA since the year 2002.

In 1985, Delvag's then second subsidiary, Delvag Rückversicherungs-AG, was founded in order to provide an independent structure to the reinsurance business that had steadily increased within Delvag.

Company profile
A glance into the pioneering days brings something interesting and - for us as part of a company influenced by mobility - curious to light.
