Why is a transport insurance so important? It is general practice in the transportation industry that carriers limit their liability in the event of loss or damage or even completely exclude it under certain circumstances. Carriers normally use the shipment weight or the number of packages as a basis for their liability.
This means that, in the event of loss or damage to the cargo, the carrier's liability might differ from the actual value of your shipment.
Transport insurance protects the goods because, in the event of loss or damage, the replacement value is refunded.
